El Patio Apartments, owned by the Zaguán group, have won second prize in these awards that value the best recovery and conservation projects of historic buildings in the city of Caceres.

The mayor of Caceres, Luis Salaya, presented the awards for the fifth edition of the Qazrix Award, which is convened by the Caceres Historical City Consortium to reward the best works of recovery and restoration of buildings in the area of the old town of the city.

The winning project of this edition is the renovation of the Vargas Figueroa house (Casa del Sol), which obtains an award of 5,000 euros and has been carried out by the Congregation of Missionaries of the Precious Blood; and the second prize, worth 2,000 euros, went to the tourist apartment building in the Plaza Mayor ‘El Patio’, a work carried out by the Zaguán group.

Salaya, who has been accompanied by the general director of Libraries, Archives and Cultural Heritage, Francisco Pérez Urbán, and the Councilor for Heritage, José Ramón Bello. He highlighted that the project for the El Patio Apartments highlights a building in the Plaza Mayor, “which has become a reference with great respect for the physiognomy of the property itself.”

The jury has valued, above all, that from a practically abandoned building with many problems, a heritage has been recovered and has been put at the service of the economic development of the city.
